Deepcool LS720 360mm ARGB AIO Liquid Cooler: Performance Review

Introduction :

Deepcool is a well-known brand for Chassis, Coolers, PSU, etc. Although Deepcool products have become available in India in the last couple of years, their popularity has risen considerably in a short span of time. The main reason for that can be attributed to quality products, reasonable prices, and reliability to name a few. It should be noted that unlike many other brands in the market, Deepcool manufactures a lot of its products themselves. Having control over manufacturing gives a huge advantage since products can be refreshed or updated quickly unlike the OEM model where you are dependent to some extent on the OEM supplier. Not that it is impossible but can be cumbersome at times.

Deepcool is known to make their own AIO coolers, right from the pump, cold plate, etc. They do not rely on other OEMs for this. After almost 3 years of R&D, they are coming out with their latest 4th gen pump design.

The Deepcool LS Series of AIO Liquid Coolers marks the introduction of this 4thgen pump with other improvements to cold plate orientation to improve thermal efficiency. They also include a completely new fan design, including a daisy chain capable cabling to reduce wiring clutter for PWM and ARGB cables.

There are a lot of new things we shall see with this entirely new lineup from Deepcool. Let’s check it out in detail.

Unboxing :
Detailed Specifications on the back side of the box.
The rear of the box explains Deepcool’s Anti–Leak Technology in brief.
Molded cardboard tray to hold cooler, fans, mounting kits in place.
New 4th gen pump design, FC120 static pressure optimized fans, quick installation guide, owner’s manual, different mounting kits for almost all current-gen Intel & AMD platforms.
Closer Look :
Redesigned and optimized Cold plate.
Braided Hoses/Tubes with clamps for neat and tidy routing them once installed inside the chassis. The addition of these clamps is a nice touch.
The quality of the sleeving is top-notch.
The center plate with the Deepcool Logo is rotatable depending on the orientation of the pump mounting. Very helpful feature to have.
We still see a 27mm thick aluminum radiator. Looking at the way core counts in modern CPUs are increasing and with it, heat dissipation, it is about time we retire 27mm thick radiators.

Deepcool’s brand new FC120 ARGB Static Pressure optimized 120mm Fans.
These are Fluid Dynamic Bearing fans. Being optimized for high static pressure, they work at lower rpm and help in keeping noise levels low. The maximum rated rpm is 2250 +/- 10%

Observations & Conclusions

  1. This is the first product from Deepcool which uses their new 4th gen pump design.

  2. They claim to have done a lot of research on optimizing cold plate design which works wonders, especially for the Intel platform. The results above are in line with this claim.

  3. Deepcool recommends using vertical orientation for the Intel platform, i.e. the tube of the pump would be adjacent to the graphics card slot. We tested with this orientation as well as tubes adjacent to RAM slots. It is evident that GPU slot adjacent orientation is the best and the impact on performance is substantial as can be seen from the results above.

  4. Orientation has a negligible impact on the AMD platform.

  5. The Daisy chain mechanism for the fans is very convenient since it combines power and ARGB both together. This mechanism reduces wire clutters a lot. Great work Deepcool!

  6. The downside of this daisy chain mechanism is that you cannot use these fans elsewhere or without the necessary converter or adapter or controller.

  7. Deepcool provides an extra top plate for the pump housing which can be used for customizing the stock plate which has a subtle small logo on it.

  8. The End-user price is expected to be around Rs.11,500/- which is very aggressive considering the performance, features, etc.

  9. The Deepcool LS720 is easily capable of handling the Intel 12th Gen Core i3, i5, and i7 range of CPUs but the Core i9 series is a tough task for it. This cooler is not an exception though, it is a pain for almost all mid and high-end 360mm AIO Liquid Coolers.

  10. Similar behavior is seen with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series, Ryzen 5, 7 are not much of an issue but Ryzen 9 is slightly on the higher side. What is worth noting is that Ryzen CPU temps are very sensitive to Vcore or Core Voltage. The delta between 1.3V and 1.2V is almost ~10c which is massive. Therefore if you manually undervolt your Ryzen CPU marginally, you should be able to see impressive gains in terms of temperature reduction.

  11. This cooler is like a breath of fresh air. Simple design, refreshed pump and cold plate for better thermal performance, daisy chain fans, and last but not least, a very sweet price.

Taking all these factors into consideration, we don’t see why this cooler doesn’t deserve a solid Gold!
